Title

Eugenics in Relation to the New Family and the Law on Racial Integrity.

Description

Eugenics in Relation to the New Family and the Law on Racial Integrity. Including a paper read before the American Public Health Association.

Pamphlet created by W. A. Plecker, M.D., Virginia state registrar of vital statistics from 1912 to 1946. Plecker was an advocate of eugenics and white supremacy. He used Virginia's Act to Protect Racial Integrity (1924) to remove legal recognition of Native Americans in the state, instead classifying them as "colored."

The Act to Protect Racial Integrity remained in effect until 1967 when it was overturned in the landmark case, Loving v. Virginia.

Pamphlet sections:

Introduction
Eugenics
Virginia's Attempt to Adjust the Color Problem (Read before the American Public Health Association, at Detroit, October 23, 1924.)
An Act to Preserve Racial Integrity
